ShoulderJAM Shoulder Registry powered by OBERD: A New Era in Shoulder Research

12/05/17

OBERD, the leading outcomes and clinical data collection vendor, has partnered with ShoulderJAM LLC to launch a unique, data-rich Shoulder Registry that combines patient-reported outcomes (ASES, PROMIS Global 10, VAS) and specialist clinical forms.

The ShoulderJAM team, comprised of renowned physicians Dr. Joe Abboud (Rothman Institute), Dr. Anand Murthi (Medstar) and Dr. John Erik-Bell (Dartmouth-Hitchcock), has created a Registry designed by surgeons for surgeons. Known as "ShoulderJAM Shoulder Registry powered by OBERD," the Registry will provide an invaluable database for research and quality improvement in upper-extremity orthopaedic subspecialties.

Using OBERD's efficient IntraOp and Physician Exam forms, clinical, x-ray and outcomes data are combined in a database on secure HIPAA-compliant cloud servers, and made available in de-identified form for the benefit of researchers.

"The ShoulderJAM Shoulder Registry was created to fill a research data gap," said Dr. Joe Abboud. "We needed an efficient way to gather outcomes data from patients and combine it with pathology, treatment and implant data, to help us understand what are the most effective procedures, and deliver better health outcomes."

"Partnering with OBERD made complete sense," said Dr. Anand Murthi. "They are the leaders in patient-reported outcomes data collection, and many of the leading shoulder surgeons already use the OBERD platform. Together with OBERD, we believe the Registry will flourish and gather essential data for research."

ShoulderJAM Shoulder Registry is user-friendly and easy to access. The Registry features:

  • Highly efficient data capture in the operating room, including implant scanning
  • High compliance to form completion by patients
  • No installation, minimal impact on IT resources
  • Access to de-identified data for research
  • No upfront costs - surgeons start paying when they "go-live"

"OBERD is delighted to support this initiative and provide the tools to collect essential data in this important research field," said OBERD CEO Ali Hussam PhD. "ShoulderJAM Shoulder Registry will enable surgeons to easily contribute to a national database that we hope to become the de facto shoulder research resource."
