Leverage Tools That Offer Multiple Insights into Collected Outcomes Data | OBERD

As healthcare transitions into a value-based system, the use of Patient Reported Outcome Measurement (PROM) tools has greatly accelerated. Patients can now quantify their satisfaction, experience, and assessment of their overall quality of life throughout their care. Collectively, these reports contribute to a physician’s quality performance score, which will be published on the Physician Compare website beginning in 2017.

The healthcare industry is on the cusp of a quality revolution in healthcare, and delivering patient satisfaction is now more important than ever.

The publication of quality performance scores on the Physician Compare site underscores the emerging importance of utilizing PROM tools that best evaluate patient-facing processes. It also highlights the importance of using data collection technologies that not only collect PROM data, but also offer the ability to audit and, if warranted, modify quality procedures.

Providers should select data collection and analysis tools that offer inventive capabilities to manage, analyze and share patient outcomes data on an individual and collective (big data) scale. They should look to tools that enable the seamless importation of historical data as well, including scores, demographics, EMRs in addition to outcomes. Emerging best in class extensible technologies offer actionable feedback loops in near- or real-time to compare raw data against high-level aggregate information.

With the increased importance that value-based care places on patient-reported outcomes measurements, particularly in calculating reimbursement amounts, the ability to access real time status of MIPS-related Quality Performance reports enables providers to audit and iterate quality processes throughout a performance period.
